Review 189: Bacardi Gold

I've been away for a while, so let's ease back into things with a cheap and available drink. A rum might actually be a good choice! I think Bacardi Gold fits the bill and I happen to have a miniature bottle on  hand. Let's go!

Bacardi Gold

Color: Amber -2

ABV: 40%

Aroma Neat:
Vanilla, Light Tobacco, Thin Honey, Cooked Corn (creamed, a little), White Fruit, Young Pear, Papaya Puree, Fresh Mango, Warm Tar.

Corny sweetness up front makes this seem a bit like a Canadian whisky. Some delicious tropical fruit notes are present too, but barely. Very light in overall character.

Aroma Water:
Mango, Pear Juice, Fermenting Fruits (dunder?), Candied Papaya, Light Vanilla, Toasted Oak, Simple Syrup, Maduro Cigar Wrapper.

I should review some more Bacardi rums. It seems they produce very good spirit. Some time ago I remember trying the white Bacardi and being impressed... Anyway, the nose could certainly stand to be more assertive, but I'm not put off at all by the aromas I'm detecting. This is rather good!

Taste Neat:
Honey, Muscovasdo Sugar, Sweet Tobacco, Toasted Oak, Vanilla Marshmallows, Smoked Apples and Mangoes, Fresh Spirit (tamely, though).

Honestly the palate is pretty good, certainly better than the nose led me to believe. Big hits of varied sweetness and measured oak/spirit influence make this a good rum for very hot days.

Taste Water:
Burnt Sugar, Molasses/Tar, Sweet Tobacco, Fermenting Tropical Fruits, Honeyed Oak, Vanilla, Cinnamon (slightly).

Very nice and balanced. Loving the fruit

Finish:
Spirit, Tar, Charred Oak, Haribo Gummy Bears, Grilled Pineapple, Vanilla.

Gone in a flash, but pleasing while it lasts.

Conclusion:
Everything thats good about white rum (fruitiness, burnt sugar), with just enough oak influence (vanilla, char) to augment the complexity and give the experience a well rounded character.

A great value purchase!

Rating: 81/100

With cheap spirits of any variety, you can end up getting a terrible product. Fortunately, I think Bacardi Gold is pretty darn good! It's full of delicious fruit (a fruit bomb, even) and sweet oaky and sugary influence. This is a perfect boat drink right out of the bottle!
