Continuing the Tomatin vertical with the 15 year old!
Tomatin 15
Color: Amber -2
ABV: 43%
Aroma Neat:
Fresh Barley Grist, Crisp Semi-Dry Riesling (from the Finger Lakes ;-) ), Fruity New-Make Spirit, Pears, Lemons/Limes, Simple Syrup, Green Oak.
Shy at first compared to its older and younger sherried brothers. That's just fine though, because if you wait a few minutes you'll be rewarded by a deliciously fruity experience!
Aroma Water:
Lemon Cake, Vanilla Icing, Buttery Chardonnay, Barley Grist, Raw Sugar, Salt (a hint), Peaches, Apples.
Poppyseed muffins, anyone? With a nice white?
Taste Neat:
Barley Grist, Tannic Green Oak, Lemon, Thin Vanilla, Sweet Oak/Wood Sugar, Banana Water (this may exist only in my mind), Coconut Rum (slightly).
Quite sharp and bitter on the tongue, surprisingly so actually. Sweet notes are hidden within, though, and manifest themselves more and more with time in the glass.
Taste Water:
Barley Water, Bananas, Vanilla, Mild Char, Smooth Oak, Esters/New Make, Salted Lemon, Apple Juice, Wax.
Drinking pretty little young, in my opinion. It's more like a 10 or even an 8 year old in my opinion. Less fruity than neat, but some enjoyable waxiness comes through.
Finish:
Bitter Oak, Fresh Char, Vanilla Bananas (slightly), Soap Shavings/Wax, Lemony Apples.
Charred finish, but still more spirit driven than oak driven.
Conclusion:
Clean and simple, but I don't think the best casks were used. It just drinks young for a 15 yo.
Rating: 80/100
